Greater Houston Area Auditions

The Greater Houston Area Auditions (GHAA) is a one-day event at HSPVA sponsored by the Theatre Guild where 75-100 seniors from the Houston area audition for admission and scholarships for 40-50 college theatre programs. This event is staffed by the HSPVA Theatre Guild and student volunteers provide assistance for all college representatives. Read more about GHAA…

International Thespian Festival (Nebraska)

The annual Thespian Festival at the University of Nebraska in June showcases high school performances on four stages, a wealth of learning opportunities for students and educators in workshops and master classes, a student leadership program, auditions for college admission and Thespian scholarships, the Thespian Playworks student playwriting program, and much more. Each year the HSPVA Theatre Department sponsors a trip for rising seniors to attend the Festival and participate in college auditions. Read more about the International Festival Auditions…

Unified Auditions

Each year HSPVA Theatre seniors attend the National Unified Auditions to audition for admission to college theatre programs. Many of the top 25-50 theatre programs in the country attend Unifieds and hold final auditions. Attending Unifieds can save greatly on travel time and costs vs. attending on-campus auditions at individual schools. Unifieds are held in New York, Chicago, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles – HSPVA attends the Chicago auditions. Read more about Unifieds…

Young Arts

Young Arts is a program of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts in which more than 7,000 high school seniors compete for talent awards and scholarships in the Fine Arts, including the prestigious Presidential Scholar in the Arts award. Each year seniors in the HSPVA Theatre Department prepare video submissions to enter the Young Arts competition in October.  Read more about Young Arts…

Summer Programs

Theatre Companies in Houston

HSPVA Theatre Students can earn extra credit by attending theatre performances and filing a play report within one week.  Play report forms can be found on the Theatre Department website on the Downloads page under the Current Students menu item. Go to the big list of Houston Theatre Companies…
